A new service has been launched recently called Social Alerter. This is a web-based social media monitoring service which tells you when one of your posts is going to get on the front page of Digg or Technocrati so that you can get your server ready for the extra hits. And everyone knows the digg effect, where a huge number of visitors comes to a website and is, to the server, similar to a DDoS attack.

Signup is quick and easy, just username and email, plus a confirmation email which lets you autologin once and change your password. Then, you only have to tell them which website you want monitored and the rest is automatic. So if you’re into SMO (social media optimization) this will be a useful little tool to make sure you can serve pages during the locust swarm :)

Enjoy, and don’t forget to subscribe to my feed. You never know what you may miss in the future…
