Well, you know what i mean.
Work can be fun. I personally find the daily challenges rewarding. Even if it’s hard, repetitive tasks it’s still got its element of fun. I guess what I mean is that you’ve got to find the interesting bit in everything you do. I personally take a lot of satisfaction in the fact that I discover new ways of doing my job, which are faster, more effective.
And when stuff becomes boring and there’s nothing to improve and so on, I start creating little games for myself, like the chart you see above (it represents the number of processed records per minute). Oh, and if you want to see the photo in larger format click here. When I had my idiotic call center job I did a comic, Mr. Fuzzy, during the call waiting bits and so on. It was only one thing but it really helps with the repetitive stuff. I mean my brain does the job on its own anyway, might as well enjoy some creative time myself
Some people enjoy music while they work. I don’t really, makes me lose focus. I do like podcasts though. Don’t really listen to them but they don’t distract my attention and there’s someone blabbering so the deafening silence doesn’t get me.
Strangest thing about me though is the fact that I need a proper motivation to work. I mean it’s not that I’m lazy, when I want to I can do a lot and work really well, but unless I want to work I can’t really focus on it. I guess it’s more a matter of wanting to have a purpose, not just doing a crappy job for the sole purpose of making a lowly salary. I want what I make to be important and well while my internship isn’t exactly world changing it helps me advance to the point that I can maybe choose what to do when I finish it.
Point today is find something to make your job great. And if you can’t do that, then find a distraction or something to keep you occupied enough so you can forget the routine of it all.
Have a great weekend and tomorrow is TGIF
